Hypertensive subjects had lower FMD values and similar lipid profiles to normotensive subjects. Grouping subjects according to total-C/HDL-C levels showed that those with high values had lower FMD values. Hypertensive subjects with low total-C/HDL-C had similar endothelial

Twenty-two consecutive patients were referred between January 2004 and February 2012 with postoperative gastric leak or stenosis after LSG. Interventions consisted in the control of intra-abdominal and general sepsis; restoration of staple line continuity or revision of LSG; nutritional support; treatment of associated complications. Main outcome measures concerned success rates of therapeutic strategies, morbidity and mortality rates, LOS, and time to cure.

Thirteen patients (59 %) were referred after failure of reoperation (seven fistula repairs were attempted). Three patients received emergency surgery in our center with transorificial intubation and jejunostomy formation. Average age was 58 years; diabetes prevalence was low and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) concentrations were high, but a large proportion smoked and had high pathogen burden. CVD was higher in men (12.6%) than in women (5.3%) (prevalence ratio 2.4, CI 1.3-4.4). Rates of stroke (6.1% in men, 1.8% in women) were similar to those for coronary heart disease (CHD) (6.1% men, 2.5% women). MI prevalence was low in both genders (1.9% and 0.7%). CVD was higher in men and in those >60 years. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess short-term hematological and biochemical safety following the oral systemic administration of ABS to rabbits. Methods: Twelve rabbits (aged 6-12 months) were included to test the safety of oral ABS. Animals were divided into 4 groups, which had ABS administered orally at doses of 1, 3, 6, and 9 mL, irrespective of their weight. The general well-being and feeding patterns of the animals were observed for a period of 7 days. Blood samples (5.5 mL) were obtained just before oral administration, on days 1 and 4.
